Agra Fort


The Agra Fort, also known as the “Lal –kila” or “Qila-e-Akbari”, Agra fort is the main highlight of the city of Agra, which was the capital of the Mughal Sultanate at that time. Agra Fort was originally a brick fort that was formally known as Badalgarh which was made by Raja Badal Singh. The Mughal emperor Akbar defeated King Hemu at the Second Battle of Panipat in 1556 and made Agra as his capital and start renovation in it. Agra fort is about 2.5 km northwest from the Taj Mahal. Agra fort was renovate by the great Mughal emperor Akbar, who was famous for his justice. Agra fort was made with only red sandstone rocks that's why it got its name Red fort. It was built with bricks in its inner core and the red sandstone on its external surfaces. In Agra fort four gates were provided on its all four sides, first Khizari gate opening on to the river side. Two of the fort's gates are "Delhi Gate" and the "Lahore Gate." The Lahore Gate is also known as the "Amar Singh Gate". The Delhi Gate is not opened for tourist.
 Tourists enter in the Agra fort via the Amar Singh Gate. There is building named as Bengali Mahal. Bengali Mahal is built of red sandstone and is now splinted into Akbari Mahal and Jahangiri mahal. Besides the Taj Mahal Agra fort is the famous monuments of Agra among the other.
